FRAMEWORK

Rigidity Thinking

A lens that can narrow the range of possibilities, responses, or outcomes that feel acceptable.

THE PREMISE

There is a right way for this to happen.

When certainty, rules, expectations, or a particular outcome feel important, flexibility can become harder. What we expected to happen can begin carrying more weight than the information actually in front of us.

WHAT IT CAN LOOK LIKE

You may find yourself thinking in either/or terms, holding tightly to a plan or expectation, struggling when circumstances change, or deciding what something should look like before it has fully unfolded.

A setback can become failure. A different path can feel like the wrong path. Changing your mind can feel like inconsistency.

WHERE FRICTION CAN DEVELOP

The rule can become more important than the reality.
We may continue trying to make an experience fit an existing expectation even when new information suggests there are other possibilities.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO NOTICE

Notice when the range of acceptable possibilities begins getting smaller.

Instead of only asking:

Is this happening the way it should?

Try asking:

What else could be true here?

REFLECTION

Where might I be holding onto a rule, expectation, or outcome that no longer fits?

YOUR FRAMEWORKS MAY CHANGE BY CONTEXT

You may operate through one framework in your relationships and a very different one with work, finances, family, health, or yourself. The Framework Assessments are an opportunity to see what may be especially active in a specific area of your life right now.
